Omnicom creative agency BBDO leads the shortlist of the inaugural Asia Pacific Effies with the most number of finalists.

Combined with sibling digital brand Proximity, BBDO secured 24 finalists, with entries from China, Japan, Australia, the Philippines and New Zealand.

Ogilvy and Lowe are next most-shortlisted with nine entries. TBWA have eight and McCann – with two for the most awarded campaign of last year, Dumb Ways to Die – a total of seven.

Independent agencies also feature among the finalists. New Zealand’s Barnes, Catmur & Friends, which claimed to be the region’s most effective indie last year, secured two finalists. Indochinese specialist Riverorchid, The Monkeys and BWM from Australia, Singapore’s Goodfellas and Walter from Pakistan also made the shortlist.

Australia was by far the most shortlisted country, with 22 finalists followed by New Zealand (16), India (12) and China (11). Japan (9) and Singapore (8) were the next most shortlisted nations, then Malaysia (6).

The awards ceremony will be held in Singapore at The Conrad Centennial on 3 April.
