MediaCom has hired Darragh Hardy to replace Sean Seamer as Asia Pacific chief business development officer.

Seamer, save for a seven month sabbatical he took in 2012, has been with MediaCom since 2003, when he worked in the London office. The agency says that he is to stay on at the company, but in a different role yet to be announced. Mumbrella understands that Seamer has been promoted.

Hardy joins the WPP media agency after a five-year period outside of the media industry. He last worked in media in 2009, when he was CEO of GroupM’s Japan operation.

Mark Heap, who is still relatively new to the role of regional CEO of MediaCom, said of Seamer: “Sean is a MediaCom veteran. He has been with us since 2003, playing in that time an integral part in MediaCom’s development and growth. He is without doubt, one of the most well liked and respected people within the agency and since I joined last year, he has been an invaluable support to me, for which I am truly grateful.”

On Hardy, he commented: “In the past Darragh and I have worked on several projects together and we have got on really well. He is a fabulous guy; not only is he extremely smart, but he has a gravitational pull that really brings out the best in the people around him. MediaCom has an amazing depth of talent with an unmatched resource landscape to tap into. Darragh will be a real asset in helping to realise the full potential of those resources.”
