SINGAPORE — September 17, 2014 Global independent integrated communications agency Waggener Edstrom Communications (WE) has promoted Shefali Srinivas to Healthcare Director for Asia Pacific. She was most recently the firm’s Healthcare Director for Singapore. In this new role, Shefali will be responsible for managing the agency’s healthcare client portfolio as well as expanding the practice across the APAC region.

“Since establishing the healthcare practice in 2010, WE has developed our portfolio to include leading names in nutrition, managed care, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, consumer, and digital health,” says Matthew Lackie, SVP & APAC Lead, Waggener Edstrom. “Shefali has played a significant role in growing our healthcare business – WE experienced a 350% growth in our healthcare client portfolio since 2013 – and she has been critical to our success. Given her extensive journalism experience in this region and her healthcare communications background, I’m confident that she will further accelerate our regional growth.”

Shefali’s experience as a journalist spans 10 years across leading publications in Singapore, the US, South Africa, and India. Four of those years were spent as a correspondent for Singapore’s flagship daily, The Straits Times, where she covered the full spectrum of health news, from healthcare policy to the wellness industry. She also held consultancy stints with some of the industry’s most prominent communications firms.

“This is such a diverse region with deep differences across the healthcare spectrum – from policy and payers to patient and physician motivations. Information to help these discrete groups make important decisions needs to be clear and credible while also being creative and compelling. The Waggener Edstrom healthcare team has partnered with some great brands to strike that balance with our proprietary research, design and communication methodologies. Given that we’ve more than doubled our client portfolio in the last two years, I’m optimistic about the regional market for a nimble and integrated service such as ours,” says Shefali.

Shefali takes on the healthcare reigns from Vice President and former Practice Head Cathleen Witter, who moved into the role of Shanghai General Manager earlier this year and continues to support WE’s healthcare business in China. Healthcare continues to be a key sector across the globe. Shefali will partner closely with Aimee Corso, Senior Vice President US Healthcare and Anna Gray, Vice President UK Healthcare, ensuring close collaboration with colleagues across EMEA, APAC, and the US.

This announcement builds on WE’s growth in the healthcare sector across the APAC region and follows the agency’s numerous awards in healthcare including Gold in Public Education for HPB at the 2012 & 2013 APAC SABRE Awards and Excellence in Public Relations (Corporate Relations) for HPB at the 2012 Marketing Excellence Awards.
