Havas launches strategic comms agency behind Tokyo 2020 Olympic bid in Japan
Havas Sports & Entertainment has launched comms and content agency Seven46 in Japan.
Seven46, which specialises in sport and struck an alliance with Havas in 2012, was the strategic communications agency behind Tokyo’s successful bid for 2020 Olympics.
The Tokyo office will be led by former Barclays Capital Japan executive Emiri Tokunaga.
She will be tasked with developing new business opportunities from the agency’s editorial services, executive and presentation coaching, training and education.
Seven46 Founder and CEO Nick Varley said: “We are delighted to be making this important step in the Japanese market. I am certain that Emiri will prove to be an outstanding ambassador for Seven46, and will help us to grow further in Japan at this exciting time for the country.”
Tokunaga added: “It is an honour to be working alongside Nick and the rest of the Seven46 team, which has such a strong reputation in helping people and businesses to communicate effectively on a global stage.
“I believe there is a real appetite for such skills in Japan, and look forward to helping Seven46 build a strong base here in Tokyo,” she said.
Confused. I thought Weber Shandwick was the strategic PR agency behind the 2020 bid. How does this align with Seven46 being the strategic communications partner for the 2020 bid? Who did what?
ReplyMarc, Weber Shandwick were indeed also involved in the Tokyo 2020 bid working with Seven46 and the Bid Committee, of course. Weber’s role was basically international media relations, bringing both scale and local resource. Seven46 was responsible for defining the strategic ‘narrative’ and messaging and working with the Comms Directors to shape the overarching campaign. They also did all the presentation scripts, copy for publications etc. It’s similar to the way Weber worked with JTA, for example, on Sochi 2014.
