Telenor launches first TV ad in Myanmar
Telenor, one of two international telecommunications firms with a licence to operate in Myanmar, has launched its first television commercial in the country.
Created by independent Burmese agency Mango Communications, the commercial centres on a woman under pressure from her inlaws to prepare a signature dish from Mandalay.
Lynn Lynn Tin Htun, head of Mango’s creative operation, explained the thinking behind the ad: “Telenor offers the lowest call rate in Myanmar, where mobile service used to be considered luxury and just for businesses. With Telenor’s affordable mobile service, the people of Myanmar can now make their first calls and “Talk More” for any daily life events, even as small as calling your mother in Mandalay for a recipe. The ad shows how Telenor can make an individual’s life easier by enabling them to connect more.”
Norway’s Telenor is going head to head with Qatari network Ooredoo for market share in Myanmar’s rapidly expanding mobile phone market, as both race to extend their services across the country.
Ooredoo’s first commercial, which created by Bates CHI & Partners, showed how Burmese from all walks of life can get connected with Ooredoo’s “crystal clear voice and fast internet.”
