APD appoints Chee Hung Goon as Malaysia CEO

Digital services group APD, which won Campaign of the Year at the recent Mumbrella Asia Awards, has promoted Chee Hung Goon to chief executive of its Malaysia office.

The announcement:

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 JUNE 2015: APD, the 360-degree digital services firm active across Asia-Pacific, has appointed Chee Hung Goon as CEO of APD Malaysia, from 30 June.

Goon has been general manager of APD Interact in Malaysia for the past nine months, as well as leading the account for one of the company’s largest clients in Asia, the telco Maxis.

Earlier this month APD’s parent, Asia Pacific Digital, united its five subsidiaries under the APD brand in order to launch a full 360-degree digital offer across the region.  APD’s largest Malaysian business unit was formerly named Next Digital.

Roger Sharp, Chairman of APD, said Goon is impeccably credentialed, having founded his own digital agency a decade ago, as well as working for OgilvyOne in Vietnam.

“We are on a rapid growth trajectory in Asia, in particular in Malaysia at the moment, where we recently achieved the Mumbrella Asia award for campaign of the year for our work with Maxis. Goon has been instrumental in the Maxis success, and I know he will continue to build the momentum we have been enjoying in Malaysia,” Sharp said.

Goon is replacing Janet Teo at the helm of APD Malaysia. Also departing is APD Interact Asia CEO, Vic Sithasanan.

Sithasanan and Teo sold the business they founded, FutureLab to APD parent company, Asia Pacific Digital three years ago, and in that time, they have helped to grow the business to be more profitable now than the entire revenues were three years ago.

Sharp said: “Vic and Janet are returning to their entrepreneurial roots, setting up a technology-enabled recruitment business. We thank them for their hard work and success in Malaysia and wish them every success in their new venture. We look forward to working with them as consultants into the future.

“Our Malaysian office is in great hands, with Goon who has worked so closely with Vic and Janet and also shares their entrepreneurial spirit.”

In Malaysia, APD’s clients include Maxis, Fonterra, GSK, Proton and The Star.
