The Philippine Daily Inquirer signs deal with Outbrain

The Philippine Daily Inquirer has signed a deal with online recommendation engine Outbrain.

The announcement:

MANILA, 5 February, 2016 – The Philippines’ largest publisher, The Philippine Daily Inquirer, and Outbrain (www.outbrain.com), the world’s leading content discovery platform, announced today the details of a strategic partnership that will see the media company enhance its digital strategy by deploying the full-suite of Outbrain’s Engage solutions, to deliver relevant content to audiences on its key digital portal, Inquirer.net.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer, popularly known as the Inquirer, is the country’s most read and influential newspaper. With over 2.7 million nationwide readers daily, it enjoys a market share of over 50% within the Philippines. Readership of its online platform, Inquirer.net, is growing steadily and gaining a strong foothold in the digital space.

The partnership with Outbrain will empower the Inquirer to fully leverage the Outbrain’s Engage platform, to manage their own content recommendations and drive increased audience engagement through key insights and analytics; maximise revenues on their website.

“Content distribution has played a key role in our digital strategy thus far, and we believe that we’ve now found the right partner in Outbrain to help us raise the bar in content and user engagement” said Gary Libby, Inquirer.net’s COO. “Outbrain’s focus on audience engagement and data analytics was a key driver in our decision to launch this partnership, especially as digital content consumption is expected to skyrocket in the Philippines in 2016 and beyond. Through this partnership, we aim to not only enhance the user experience for our readers, but also maximise our monetisation opportunities, driven by a strategic and relevant, native experience, too.”

In 2015, Outbrain broadened its technology and offering into a multifaceted platform to pioneer a new era of digital publishing. The Outbrain Engage solution* empowers an entire media organisation to guide the personalisation of content to every user. As part of the partnership with the Inquirer, Outbrain will provide the publication with tools that marry editorial decision-making with predictive analytics and algorithmically generated content recommendations that are relevant to the user. This solution will allow the Inquirer to better engage and monetise through Outbrain Engage, along with deep data integration through their Visual Revenue platform.

Marc Irwin, Senior Director, Business Development, Asia & India at Outbrain said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with the Inquirer and together we hope to contribute driving digital publishing innovation in the Philippines. Outbrain began as a recommendation product: however we have continued to listen to industry needs, improve our offering and constantly innovate. We have now evolved into a guided personalisation platform that serves multiple publisher stakeholders, affords our partners with the flexibility to embrace digital opportunities and continues to deliver what audiences crave.”

Outbrain continues to build on its strong growth trajectory and is gaining incredible momentum with an increasing pool of premium partners – both publishers and brands – across the globe including the U.S., UK, France, Japan, Singapore, India and Australia. The platform now serves over 200 billion recommendations per month to consumers in over 150 countries – with more than 557 million unique users. It kicked off strategic partnerships in the Philippines in 2011, and is working with majority of the key publishers in the country.
