IPG Mediabrands has confirmed the appointment of Bala Pomaleh as CEO of its Malaysian operation.

Pomaleh, the former CEO of Carat Malaysia, takes over from Prashant Kumar who is leaving the network to pursue new opportunities, a statement from IPG said.

“Bala is a dynamic, proven leader that’s constantly looking to redefine media,” said Henry Tajer, IPG Mediabrands Global CEO. “We look to him to further evolve our offering in the Malaysian market, expanding our best-in-class capabilities, scale and scope, as well as investing in top talent to fuel growth in this critical market.”

Tajer paid tribute to Kumar and thanked him for the “contribution he has made to IPG Mediabrands”.

Kumar, who spent 13 years with the business, was rumoured to have quit two weeks. At the time the company said he was being offered other opportunities within IPG Mediabrands.

Pomaleh joined Carat in mid 2012 from sister company Posterscope Malaysia where he spent almost five years as MD and then CEO.

He will be replaced at Carat by Darren Yuen.

Yuen has been with Carat Malaysia since its inception and, according to Dentsu Aegis Network Malaysia CEO Nicky Lim, has demonstrated “brilliant commercial acumen, management and communications skills and leadership abilities”.

He has held the role of general manager in business operations management for the past three and half years.

“We are proud to have someone of Darren’s calibre and experience to lead Carat, and I’m confident Carat will prosper under his leadership,” Lim said.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Bala for his significant contributions to the firm. We wish him all the best in his future undertakings.”
