Discovery hires former Mondelēz marketer to lead South Asia business

Karan BajajDiscovery Networks has appointed Karan Bajaj, the CMO of baby brand Aden and Anais in New York, as SVP and GM of its South Asia operation based in Mumbai.

The marketer, whose CV includes stints at Mondelēz, Boston Consulting Group and P&G, joins with a brief to fulfil the company’s ambitions to broaden the reach of Discovery and seek out “inorganic growth opportunities”.

He will report to Arthur Bastings, president and MD of Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, and joins the company on 17 October.

He replaces long-time South Asia Discovery head Rahul Johri, who has moved on after 15 years with the business.

Bastings commented: “India has quickly become one of Discovery’s top-priority global markets. These are exciting times as we strategically step up our investments to take advantage of very dynamic growth in both TV and digital. Karan brings that rare combination of creative flair, a strong instinct for the Indian millennial zeitgeist and a cutting-edge leadership style. His proven track record of scaling businesses and brands speaks for itself.”
