Grey acquires China social agency Easycom

Grey Ad agency Grey has bolstered the social marketing capabilities of its Greater China offering with the acquisition of Easycom Group.

Grey has bought a majority stake in the six year-old Shanghai-based agency, whose clients include L’Oréal, LVMH, Philips, Diageo, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Kiehl’s, Coty and China Merchants Bank.

Easycom’s unaudited 2015 revenues were RMB40.6m (US$6m), with gross assets of RMB26 million.

The acquisition builds on WPP’s strategy of investing in key markets such as China, and in capabilities in content and technology, the holding company said in a statement.

News of the acquisition will be welcome for Grey, which has not enjoyed its best publicity ever after an app the Singapore developed to locate stranded refugees in the Mediterranean turned out to be a fake and designed only with awards in mind.
