Buffalo brings family together in GreynJ Thailand film for Tesco Lotus Pracharat
GreynJ United has made an offbeat campaign for Tesco Lotus Pracharat featuring Tui, a buffalo with a unique skill set. The two-minute online ad entitled a ‘A letter from a buffalo’ appears to show Tui writing to the son of a rural farmer, who has left home to find work in Bangkok.
As the film progresses, it is revealed that the father himself is the letter writer, masquerading behind the buffalo in a poignant bid to encourage his son to return home. The film highlights the sense of loss within separated families when farmers leave to find work in cities during Thailand’s dry season. Although the farmers manage to raise money for their parents, the families suffer from the pain of separation – the film reveals.
The campaign was created for Tesco Lotus for its project aimed at helping farmers develop self-reliance through education and training. Entitled the ‘Tesco Lotus Pracharat’ (Plantation Project), the project helps rural communities to grow other crops instead of rice during the dry season. Tesco Lotus then buys all of their vegetables and sells them in their supermarkets around the country. Tesco Lotus claims this helps keep the families together, while generating extra income for families.
