Dr Mumbo

YouGov investigates the burning issue of our time: Should you wear socks with sandals?

YouGov can usually be relied upon to provide useful insights on consumer trends. However, Dr Mumbo thinks the pollster may be flogging a dead horse with this press release today.

Really YouGov? We are not sure this is the best use of your research budget, although all of us have probably been through the mortifying experience of that male relative, of a certain vintage, wearing the offending garb.

Bless your cotton socks though YouGov, your team has really gone to town on this one. It certainly cheered us up at Mumbrella Towers this morning.

And Dr Mumbo is now much better informed about the burning issue of our time. Forget fake news. Forget programmatic ad scandals. Forget scam awards work. What you really need to know is that 65 per cent of Asia-Pacific folk say they enjoy mixing patterned socks with their open footwear. Geez! Who knew?

YouGov even takes the trouble to divulge country breakdowns, gender splits, although sadly not whether they prefer spots or stripes – clearly the underlying question behind all this and the issue keeping us awake at night.

Even though Dr Mumbo has always prided himself in bringing you the most gripping and powerful stories, he thinks this sadly may not be his Pulitzer Prize winner. At least we have an excuse to leave you with this delightful image:

See you at the beach. We will stick with the espadrilles for now. However, the research was certainly a valiant effort to persuade us otherwise.
