MEC India has appointed Ravi Sekhar as chief digital officer, following the departure of Vishal Chinchankar to rival agency Madison Media.

He will be based in Mumbai and will report to T Gangadhar, the managing director of MEC South Asia.

Sekhar joins the agency from his own start-up venture selekt.in, an artificial-intelligence-powered product discovery engine.

Prior to that, he headed digital, marketing technology and retention marketing at eBay India between 2010 and 2015. Specialising in FMCG and telecom industries, Sekhar also has worked with CavinKare and Nokia.

He said: “The industry is witnessing exciting growth. Both, traditional and online companies are acknowledging the impact of data and digital marketing on their business. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to build the relevant technology stacks.”

Sekhar’s predecessor Chinchankar oversaw MEC India’s digital division for nearly four years as digital lead. In a career spanning 20 years, he has also worked at fellow GroupM agency Mindshare across India and Singapore.

He joins Madison Media as chief digital officer and will become part of the executive committee.
