CNA Primetime chooses e-scooters story over Singapore’s House of Lee drama

Dr Mumbo was pleasantly surprised yesterday to see the headlines splashed across Singapore’s media, covering the Facebook tussle between the prime minister and his disenchanted siblings.

Despite the usually risk-averse nature of the island’s media, the story made for some interesting, although not eye-poppingly exciting, reading across Singapore’s major news outlets.

So Mumbrella Asia yesterday looked at how some of the biggest sites individually covered the unfolding row over the house, which belonged to the deceased father Lee Kuan Yew.

However, since then it has come to Dr Mumbo’s attention that one outlet – only Channel News Asia’s main news show Primetime Asia – seemingly decided to sidestep the drama in favour of a clearly more enthralling story about e-scooters.

Well that’s according to Cherian George, a director at Hong Kong Baptist University, anyway.

To be fair to CNA, there is coverage on the network’s website. But Dr Mumbo cannot help but wonder if CNA could have found a slightly more interesting story to feature, in place of the Lee family saga, than scooters. But then again, what does he know?
