Dr Mumbo

Has Tinder found its spiritual home in Manchester United FC?

Dr Mumbo may be a rare species in Singapore in that he does not seem to share the local population’s seemingly profound devotion to Manchester United Football Club. Or any Premier League team from the United Kingdom for that matter.

In fact, he’s pretty apathetic towards football altogether. After all, it’s just chasing an inflated piece of leather around a pitch right? There’s much more fun to be had down at The Jolly Roger pub (well, on the nights when the establishment is not showing footy matches).

However, despite his general disinterest in what some call the beautiful game, Dr M was nevertheless rather amused to see one of the most prominent global football brands unveil its latest sponsorship deal – with Tinder.

The agreement, allegedly worth S$24 million, gives the popular dating app access to the iconic Red Devils shirt sleeves.

Given footballers’ general penchant for showing up at parties on the arm of a beautifully turned-out WAG, you might say Tinder has found its spiritual home at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, Dr Mumbo cannot help but wonder how many Singaporeans will be seen wearing the latest Man U shirt with its flashy new logo this time next year. Especially those fans that happen to be married men.
