Marketing communications group IPG has promoted the China CEO of media agency brand UM to run its group operating unit Mediabrands.

The move is designed to forge a more united culture between Mediabrands’ different companies.

Cary Huang, CEO of UM China, moves into the newly created role of CEO of Mediabrands China.

He will now oversee UM’s sister agency Initiative and Mediabrands Audience Platform, which includes Cadreon and Reprise, as well as UM.

He will report directly into Jim Hytner, CEO of G14 Mediabrands, IPG’s grouping of “high-priority markets” that includes Australia, Benelux, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Spain and the UK.

Huang joined UM as MD in 2011 after spending much of his career with WPP agencies including Ogilvy & Mather, Maxus, Mindshare and MediaCom.
