Comedy Central enters Malaysia and Philippines

Comedy CentralMTV-owner Viacom has expanded the footprint of its new Comedy Central Asia brand, striking distribution deals in Malaysia and the Philippines.

Comedy Central Asia – which launched in the region six months ago – is to run on SKYcable and Cignal Digital TV, and by next month on Cablelink and Viva Communications, in the Philippines, and Astro in Malaysia.

The comedy brand is now available in nine markets in Asia via fifteen providers across Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Mongolia and Thailand.

Viacom International Media Networks Asia’s EVP and MD Indra Suharjono said: “Our research has shown that seven out of 10 people see comedy as a form of healthy escapism from the stresses of life, so it is no surprise why the channel is our fastest growing brand both globally and in Southeast Asia.”
