Yeo: seriously fun

One of Dr Mumbo’s all-time favourite Singaporean politicians is the inimitable former foreign affairs minister George Yeo, who once famously said – apparently without irony – “We have to pursue the subject of fun very seriously if we want to stay competitive in the twenty-first century.”

Now, it’s nice to see a media agency (which aren’t at all known to have chips on their shoulders that they’re less fun than creative agencies…) take Mr Yeo’s immortal words to heart.

Under the mantra ‘UM takes fun seriously’, the agency used its sponsorship of the Green Room at the Digital and Music Matters conference in Singapore yesterday to prove that media agency life can be more rock ‘n roll than spreadsheets and number crunching  – with some interesting results.

The agency even changed the job titles of some of its staff to ‘Happiness Mayors’ for the day, something the Singapore Kindness Movement would be chuffed with.

Leading from the front was UM Singapore boss Ray Pak (left), proving his special affection for social media exec Khairul Helmi, while senior integrated planner Sathish Sanmugavelu asked for some spare change.
