Facebook’s Sunita Kaur to lead Spotify in Asia

Sunita KaurFacebook Asia director Sunita Kaur has joined music streaming site Spotify to run its operations in the region.

Kaur, who drove Facebook’s assault on the Asia markets for a two and a half year stint, joins Spotify as director for Asia.

Spotify is still very new to the region, having launched in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore in April.

Kaur joins with a brief to oversee regional expansion and head up sales.

“Spotify has been leading the music revolution across Europe and the US and the opportunity to help continue that journey into Asia was one I wasn’t going to miss,” she said in a press release.

In a 17-year career in media, Kaur has worked at Time Warner and Singapore Press Holdings, Microsoft Advertising and, more recently, Facebook as director, Asia, from 2010.

“We’ve been waiting for Spotify to arrive in Asia for a while and the reception we’ve received has been overwhelming,” Kaur said.

She added: “We give you access to one of the world’s largest and most diverse music catalogues, for free. That’s an unbeatable deal, and one that’s helped us build a big audience in just a few short weeks. This is just the beginning for Spotify in Asia.”

Kaur will be based in Singapore.
