Media agency MEC has appointed a new managing director to run its Shanghai office.

Singaporean Carey Loh, who has a digital background, has been promoted to MD from general manager of Team Microsoft – a role has fulfilled since 2010 when he joined the agency. He will continue to run the Microsoft business.

Loh replaces former MD Tommy Au, who joined rival Vivaki to head up its out of home division a year and a half ago.

Before joining MEC, Loh held senior roles at Starcom China and Havas (previously Euro RSCG) where he worked on accounts including P&G, Volvo Car, Dell, Epson and Cartier.

He started his career in Singapore in a PR role at an IT hardware company before co-founding his own digital agency earth9.com.

Loh will report to Christian Guinot, president of MEC China, who said: “Carey’s successful track record in client and team management plus strong business development sense makes him well suited in helping us navigate and develop the future of our business.”
