SPH, Apple Daily and SCMP win at regional newspapers awards
Newspapers from Hong Kong and Singapore were among the winners at the 2013 Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association awards in Australia last night.
Singapore Press Holdings won the Digital News Destination of the Year Specialty/Niche Sites and Niche Apps category with its Myanmar Sunrise e-Book.
The Singapore publisher also won in the Marketing – Events 90,000+ circulation category for the Straits Times Appreciates Readers (Star) Programme.
Technical Excellence for a newspaper printed on a single width press 90,000+ circulation went to Hong Kong’s Apple Daily.
Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post won for Technical Excellence for Pre-Print or Supplement with a 90,000+ circulation with its Timepieces supplement.
The Newspaper Works CEO Mark Hollands said in a press release: “The awards are a chance for the newspaper industry to celebrate our great work in the face of adversity, given the difficult economic climate and period of transition we currently operate in.”
“There’s never been a more important time for the newspaper industry to focus not only on the challenges we all face, but also on the great work we do, and our contribution to society, our readers and commercial partners and clients,” he said.
The annual awards were dominated by Australia’s Fairfax. Rival News Corp missed out on all eight of the newspaper of the year trophies.
