An Australian independent advertising agency is expanding its operations in Asia.

Sydney-based Brave, which specialises in “making a big noise on tight budgets”, plans to launch a base in Vietnam early next year, building on a presence it has established in China in recent months.

Brave forged ties with Shanghai agency BraiNet six months ago, and plans to set up in Vietnam in February to service mostly governments.

The agency would not say which clients it would be working with, but said that its Hanoi-based projects would focus on manufacturing and tourism.

Brave works with a number of government clients in Australia, including the government of New South Wales and the federal government.

The agency merged with Canberra agency Zoo and Melbourne’s Boiler Room in February this year. The new entity has a client list that includes Thai Airways, Toshiba, Air Pacific, Isuzu and Sunbeam, and has expressed its ambitions to double its staff of around 25 in each office to 50 or 60.

“It’s a very interesting time to be in Vietnam. Yes, there’s been a slowdown in the economy – but there’s been a slowdown almost everywhere,” Brave’s ECD/managing partner Erica Graham told Mumbrella.

“We could wait for things to improve, or we could be proactive. If you do nothing for long enough, nothing happens. We like the country, and we like the opportunities on offer,” she said.
