Iris invites travelers to stay in Jakarta slum to raise money to cope with annual floods
Ad agency Iris is behind an idea to help people living in a slum in South Jakarta to cope with annual flooding.
Instead of giving a donation to the villagers, the agency has written a post on Airbnb inviting travelers to stay in the slum for $10 a night.
The slum, known among locals as ‘Banana republic’ because it is in the middle of a banana plantation, is located next to Iris’ offices.
The post offers travelers a simple room with a fan, with a communal shower area.
The funds raised will go towards de-clogging the river which floods every December, and building better roofs.
