Ogilvy has turned to the client community to recruit a new leader for its Malaysia operation.

Sulin Lau joins the agency from telco Digi, where she was head of marketing services.

In a first for Ogilvy in Asia, Lau will run both of the agency’s units – advertising arm Ogilvy & Mather and direct division OgilvOne.

She replaces Jonathan Aebarhard, who ran O&M Advertising and left in January to join GA Brand Design, and Patrick D’Souza of OgilvyOne, who has just left the agency.

D’Souza’s next move remains unclear at the time of publishing.

The senior management changes come at a time of considerable change for Ogilvy Malaysia, which also lost ECD Tan Chee Keong to BBDO Malaysia in April.

Anand Badami, country head, Ogilvy Malaysia said: “A new wired generation of customers demand a different kind of agency. More than 60 per cent of Malaysians’ media time is now spent on digital, mobile and social channels so we’re excited for Sulin to come on board to help clients unlock the immense potential of digitization to drive real-time, data-driven, need-specific brand relationships with customers.”

“The creation of this new joint leadership role also signifies the importance of addressing fragmented consumer attentions with more seamless integration between core brand strategy and multichannel delivery.”
