Dr Mumbo

The Stasi award for citizen journalism

Stomp Citizen Journalism AwardDr Mumbo is all for handing out awards for engaging journalism.

Which is why he was delighted to hear that there is now an award for the most engaging citizen journalists in Singapore.

Watch out ordinary members of the public trying to mind your own business, the Stomp Citizen Journalism Awards have arrived.

These awards, it was announced yesterday, will “pay tribute to the most impactful, engaging and much-talked-about stories contributed by the man in the street.”

Impacful (is that a word?) in the sense that secretly taking pictures of people feeding birds next to a no-feeding sign is impactful?

And while this does not sound at all like a Stasi recruitment drive in disguise, Dr Mumbo would shake the hand of anyone who would wear a Stomp Award badge with pride in public.

And here is one of the early contenders. It’s a story about a man dressed up as a super hero lecturing people on how to behave on a train.

“He also talked about jaywalking and stuff,” says Stomper Xiang Yi.

Stomp Citizen Journalism Awards

Engaging indeed.

The winners will be voted on every month by Stompers themselves via Stomp’s Facebook page, so get Stomping people, as you read this there is someone out there with their foot on a bus seat.

Dr Mumbo fancies himself as a bit of a citizen journalist too, and will be prowling around public places in Singapore next week hunting for people up to no good.

Jaywalkers, illegal bird feeders and people pretending to be asleep on trains, beware!
