December date for socialised Nike We Run race in Manila

Nike We Run Manila 2012One of the world’s largest brand experience campaigns is to take place in Manila on 1 December.

The 10km Nike We Run Manila race is to draw an expected 15,000 competitors, who will run through the streets of Marikina City wearing Nike branded clothing.

The event has a social element this year, called Nike Challenges, with participants able to compete with one another and set distance goals to race to a virtual finish line. Runners can check a live leader board to track their progress and where they rank against their rivals.

Nike has also introduced a chat feature that enables friends to encourage one another and share running tips.

Courtney Cole-Faso, Nike Philippines’ country marketing manager, said: “For this year’s race, we have incorporated the personality of the people of the Philippines to motivate and inspire them to lead a more active lifestyle.”

“Filipinos are kindred spirits who, without hesitation, unite for a good cause and help each other. Taking this, we hope that every Filipino runner can inspire and motivate another and run the race together.”

The Nike 10km race format takes place annually, in various forms, in 26 cites including Sydney, Seoul and Singapore involving 350,000 runners.

Nike We Run Singapore took place on Sunday, involving 20,000 runners. It was the first time runners were able to choose their own route.
