David Tang handed regional role at DDB

David TangThe long-serving boss of DDB Singapore, David Tang, has been promoted to a regional role.

Tang, who has been with DDB Singapore for 15 years, holds on to his position as president and CEO of the local agency, and is given the additional title of vice chairman of DDB Group Asia.

His new job will involve strengthening the network’s service capabilities with a focus on Southeast Asia.

Tang will continue to report to regional boss John Zeigler.

The news comes two months after Tang played down his ambitions to take on regional responsibility in an interview with Mumbrella.

In answer to a question as to whether he’d want to take Zeigler’s job, Tang said: “Being a regional CEO is not something that you can grow into. It should come naturally. I don’t think I’m naturally drawn by title or ambition.”

“I’ve always believed that the guy who’s best at the job should get on with it. John [Zeigler] is terrific at marshalling the offices and as long as he’s in the job, I’m happy that’s he’s driving the region,” he said.

“The question is, what sort of good or influence could I bring to the regional role?,” he added.

Zeigler said of Tang’s promotion in a press release: “DDB Group Singapore is No. 1 in both creativity and effectiveness, making it the most successful agency in Asia Pacific. Much of the agency’s success can be attributed to David and his management of a strong team that just keeps getting better and better.”

“I have no doubt that David’s proven success in Singapore, can be emulated across the region. His Asian knowledge, business acumen and commitment to the agency makes him perfect for driving our continued success across Asia,” he said.
