Profero launches Hong Kong office

The world’s largest independent digital agency has opened an office in Hong Kong, Mumbrella can reveal.

Profero, which was founded by brothers Daryl and Wayne Arnold in London in 1998, is opening in the territory on the back of key new business wins.

The agency won the global digital account for DFS in August and has picked up an as yet undisclosed client that it will service from Hong Kong.

The launch marks a return to the territory for Profero, which opened a Hong Kong office in November 2004 but retreated in 2010 as the company shifted its focus to the mainland.

Profero Hong Kong reboots with eight employees, with support from staff on the mainland and in Singapore on key accounts.

The agency will be overseen by South Asia boss Stuart Edwards, and follows the relocation of Edwards and global CEO Wayne Arnold to Asia earlier this year.

Arnold told Mumbrella: “I’m very optimistic about Hong Kong. In more mature markets, I’d be expecting 10-15 per cent revenue growth in a year. But in Hong Kong, I think we can achieve 20-25 per cent growth.”

“It’s not about how many people you have on the ground, it’s about how smartly you can grow with your clients,” he said.

Profero Hong Kong adds to existing offices in Beijing, Singapore, Shanghai, Seoul, Sydney and Tokyo, where the agency expanded through a merger with local agency Alien Eye in August.

Edwards added in a statement: “2013 has been a great year for Profero in Southeast Asia, recent client wins such as DFS have combined with our substantial investment into additional talent to create a really strong momentum for us.”

“This success has offered us the opportunity to begin to address what we see  as a gap in the quality of digital marketing in Southeast Asia across the retail spectrum and beyond.”

Edwards signaled Profero’s intentions to focus on the retail sector in September.
