Sapient Nitro has hired Melanie Cook from Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore as head of strategy for the agency’s Hong Kong and Singapore operations.

Cook replaces Sushobhan Mukherjee, Sapient’s regional strategy lead, who recently resigned after just over a year with the agency.

She will report to agency MD Kim Douglas and lead strategy for clients including Unilever, MetLife, Moët, EYS, Citibank and Coca Cola.

Her role is expected to expand to cover the rest of the region over the next 12 months.

Cook said: “As a systems scientist I see the world as an ecosystem interconnected by the shared experiences between individuals, communities and businesses. They are a powerful force shaping the world today. SapientNitro has the creativity and expertise to create emergent experiences in the digital space that empower us all to shape tomorrow and that’s a tantalising proposition.”

Cook was previously head of planning at Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore. She has spent much of her career at direct marketing agencies in the UK, such as Rapier, Tullo Marshall Warren and Arc. She also spent four and a half years running her chain of boutique ski resort lodges in the Alps.

Douglas said: “Melanie is a great fit for us. She is passionate about her clients succeeding, and thinks the way we do here at SapientNitro; that we should enable brands to better connect with their customers in more powerful, lasting ways. What struck me about Melanie was her ambitious and creative thinking, supported in parallel by a keen analytical viewpoint – not something most folks have in balance. She will make an immediate impact for us I am sure.”
