Four months after launching its new content creation unit Mediaco, PR agency Weber Shandwick has named Jye Smith as its boss in Asia Pacific.

Smith, who was behind the launch of Mediaco in Asia and crisis comms tool FireBell, moves from his role as Weber’s VP of digital.

He will continue report to Jon Wade, Weber’s Asia Pacific head of digital.

Wade said: “Mediaco has gained strong traction with clients and new business prospects since its launch in August. Jye, as our leading digital strategist in the region, is more than equipped to take on the leadership of this fast expanding division. He has the ability to make complex digital subjects simple and to see things always from a client point of view.”

Since its launch in August, Mediaco has set up studios in China, Hong Kong, India, Singapore and Australia.
