Godiva attempts to cure Japanese shyness at Valentine’s Day with the Wink & Smile booth
Fancy chocolate brand Godiva is launching a Valentine’s Day stunt it says will help bring shy singles together in Japan. It is called the Wink & Smile Booth.
The idea, devised by Saatchi & Saatchi Fallon, is for young Japanese to wink and smile at a facial recognition device, and a digital message is sent to someone they like. The act of winking and smiling moves a cursor and allows people to select words to create messages of love.
Photos of the individual winking and smiling in various combinations to navigate the program are turned into a series of animated GIFs to go with the text.
The clips and messages can be uploaded to Godiva’s campaign website and Facebook page.
The Wink & Smile Booth is to appear around Tokyo leading up to Valentine’s Day.
A press release from Godiva said: “This campaign reflects the emotional brand values of Godiva; creating a fun and truly unique way for typically shy Japanese to express their feelings for one another this Valentine’s Day.”
