Qatar Airways appoints Waggener Edstrom for PR in Malaysia and Singapore

Qatar AirwaysWaggener Edstrom has been appointed by Qatar Airways to handle the airline’s public relations in Malaysia and Singapore.

The agency’s brief is to bolster the Middle Eastern carrier’s reputation as a premium airline, as the company looks to compete against the likes of locally-based airlines Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines.

Qatar’s marketing manager for Malaysia, Siow May Ng, told Mumbrella: “Waggener Edstrom’s primary task is to strengthen Qatar Airways’ brand reputation as a premium 5-star carrier. WE will work closely with our offices in both Singapore and Malaysia in executing an integrated communications strategy for Qatar Airways.”

“Part of this communications strategy will be regular media engagement programmes and activities with the local and regional newspapers and broadcast stations in both countries,” Ng said.

We are confident our partnership with WE will help us achieve our key business objective, which is to raise the airline’s brand profile in Singapore and Malaysia, and increase public awareness of the airline’s positioning as an award-winning premium product serving more than 130 destinations across six continents.”

Waggener Edstrom won the business after a competitive pitch.

The appointment comes just one month after Qatar rival Singapore Airlines appointed an agency to handle social media for the first time, handing the business to Dentsu Möbius.
