Quaker billboard mimics commuters’ movements to launch Oats drink in China

DDB Shanghai has created an interactive billboard for client PepsiCo to launch a new ready-to-drink Quaker Oats product in China.

When commuters walk by the billboards, which have been erected in busy areas around Shanghai, an image of Quaker celebrity endorser Jimmy Lin holding the product is replaced by a super-sized Quaker Oats drink which mimics the movements of passers by.

Angie Wong, business director at DDB Group Shanghai, said: “There is a very strict 3-second-rule for outdoor displays where an ad will only get that many seconds of attention from people, but with the help of the Kinect technology we were able to lengthen that timeframe – not only giving consumers more time to take in our message but also providing them with some fun during their commute.”
