Social Media Week Singapore canceled

Social Media Week SingaporeSocial Media Week Singapore, a digital event scheduled to be held in the citystate in February, has been canceled.

Social Media Week is a global event franchise that relies on a local agency partner to fund and manage it, but AKA Asia – a Singaporean PR agency that has run the event locally for the last two years – has decided against running the event in February.

The event, which is billed as bringing together journalists, bloggers, brand managers, social media strategists, artists and activists “to advance our understanding of social media’s role in society”, was scheduled to be held from 17-22 February.

The event usually takes place twice a year, and might be held in Singapore in September, although that has yet to be confirmed.

The news emerges six months after the plug was pulled on Social Media Week in Hong Kong. The New York-based company struggled to secure local partner.

Other rivals events, such as Social Media Matters, organised by events company Branded, were held in its place.

Social Media Week is to be held simultaneously in seven other cities globally in February, including Tokyo, New York, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Lagos and Milan.
