Temasek Holdings appoints strategic relations chief

One of the most powerful corporations in Asia has appointed a new head of strategic relations, Mumbrella can reveal.

Gary Ang, formerly deputy secretary at the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, has joined Singapore investment conglomerate Temasek Holdings, and will work with governments, regulators and the media.

Ang, who was educated at Oxford, MIT and Harvard Business School, will work alongside Temasek’s corporate affairs team, which is led by Stephen Forshaw, the former corp comms chief at Microsoft and Singapore Airlines.

With Ang’s appointment, there will no change in how Temasek operates strategic relations and corporate affairs. Media communications are handled by corporate affairs, and interaction with governments, regulators and multilateral forums will handled by strategic relations – although there will be times where the two teams work together.

In his career, Ang has worked as deputy secretary roles for the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Defence, and was a commander in the Singapore Airforce.

Temasek Holding’s portfolio of investments includes MediaCorp, SingTel, Singapore Airlines, Bank of China, Standard Chartered and Indian mobile telco firm Bharti Airtel.

The conglomerate has a net portfolio value of $US173 billion, with a quarter of its assets in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors.
