FutureBrand has made two additions to its Asia Pacific leadership team with the appointment of Richard Curtis as chief executive of FutureBrand Australia, and Graham Purnell as Australia ECD.

Curtis joins the IPG-owned branding consultancy from rival Interbrand, where he was Australia MD. In addition to the national CEO job, he takes on a new role developing the FutureBrand product offering across Asia.

The Brit, who had a stint at Dentsu Young & Rubicam in Thailand before moving to Australia to roles at Landor Associates then Interbrand, will report to FutureBrand Asia Pacific president Sarah Reiter.

Also joining the APAC leadership team is Graham Purnell as executive creative director, FutureBrand Australia – another newly created position. The seasoned designer moves from Cato Purnell Partners after almost two decades with the Australian agency.

Curtis and Purnell are the latest additions to a new-look regional management team installed by Reiter. Late last year, she hired a new Hong Kong MD, Lucien Harrington from Turner Broadcasting, and Young Kim as the Hong Kong office’s ECD.

Reiter said: “These two senior level appointments add significant strategic and creative leadership to the FutureBrand offer, and represent FutureBrand’s commitment to clients in the Australia and New Zealand marketplaces. Richard will lead national operations and both will play a key role on the APAC leadership team.”

Curtis added: “FutureBrand is changing the way that businesses think about brands, for the better. Their commitment to product and service development means more meaningful solutions in the Australian market. And by comparison, the connectedness of the regional team, operations, planning and talent development presents a smarter way to work.”

FutureBrand’s clients in Asia include Petronas, Brand Malaysia, American Airlines and Lenovo. The agency was behind the logo design for the London Olympic Games.
