Edelman’s ‘Words of a generation’ video series interviews Indonesians who were growing up around the time of the fall of Suharto

Edelmen 'words of a generation' IndonesiaEdelman has released the latest in its ‘Words of a generation’ series, a video study to provide marketers with insights into a generation, this time on Indonesians who were teenagers around the time of the fall of Suharto.

This generation has lived through the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis, which saw Indonesia’s economy collapse and lead to the revolution that overthrew the former dictator.

Stephen Lock, CEO, Edelman Indonesia, said: “The films encapsulate a sense that to return to a time where a strong leader governed and dominated the nation will safeguard not only Indonesia’s society, but also its natural endowments and reputation. This has interesting implications for the upcoming Presidential elections, where our participants see aspects that appeal both of a strong-man presidency, such as a Prabowo figure, and a humble, gentle, empathetic presidency, that might for instance be offered by Jokowi. Both appeal to strong emotions that underpin the aspirations of young Indonesians.”
