Skype now open to advertisers in China, Thailand and the Philippines

SkypeMicrosoft has opened up its Skype service to advertisers in China, Thailand and the Philippines today.

Standards ad formats will run on the platform, but Microsoft is introducing premium formats too.

‘Conversation Ads’ will enable brands to embed messages into Skype-to-Skype audio calls, while ‘Connection Hub Ads’ will run at the starting point for all Skype users.

Adam Anger, general manager for Microsoft Advertising Greater China, said in a statement: “Skype offers premium space within an uncluttered environment where people come together for meaningful moments with family and friends. Advertising on Skype provides brands the opportunity to reach this captive, influential audience.”

Skype now runs ads in a total of 10 markets in Asia, including Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.
