China TV presenter taken off air after tirade against ‘corrupt’ officials

A television presenter in China was taken off air earlier this week after launching a tirade against government officials he branded as “wasteful and corrupt”.

The show host, Cui Jianbin from Hubei TV’s online news channel Longshang, was fronting a report on government officials who had built a luxury office building in an area eligible for poverty relief, when he spoke out against the officials.

The presenter’s outburst was interrupted by production staff off screen, then he left the set, the South China Morning Post is reporting.

Another journalist took over with a different news segment after the broadcast cut to commercials.

The clip has been widely circulated on Chinese social network Sina Weibo.
