Dr Mumbo

The world’s oldest startups

Dr Mumbo likes a good slogan. Particularly ones so good they are recycled.

Y&R, we learned today in a story about the agency hiring a new ECD in Japan, is the “world’s oldest startup”.

The agency’s regional boss Matthew Godfrey is quoted in a press release saying:

Founded in 1981, Dentsu Y&R is one of the region’s oldest and most successful partnerships; a groundbreaking venture 33 years ago, one of the many firsts for which Y&R is well-known – leading to us being dubbed the world’s oldest start-up.

Funny he should say that. Because so is 130 year-old General Electric.

And so is the publishing arm of 806 year-old University of Cambridge.

World's oldest startup

Clearly great brands age alike.
