South China Morning Post appoints sales chief

Ronald NgThe South China Morning Post has appointed a new head of advertising sales.

Romanus Ng has been promoted to general manager, advertising and marketing solutions for the Hong Kong English-language newspaper group. He will oversee a media team of about 100 across the company’s Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Singapore operations.

His promotion comes amid rumours that the newspaper is revamping its offering for advertisers with a greater focus on native advertising. The newspaper has yet to confirm this.

Ng’s role will will cover print and digital sales, marketing solutions, custom campaigns, outdoor, events and the specialist publications unit, which produces STYLE, Destination Macau and Good Eating.

Ng, who has played a role in the repositioning of the Post and SCMP.com’s move from a hard paywall to a metered model in his seven years at the company, will report directly to group COO Elsie Cheung.

The SCMP yesterday announced the launch of a revamped mobile ap, as mobile advertising spend in China continues to climb.
