The general manager of Southeast Asian digital media company Catcha Digital Asia, Simon Barnett, has joined News Corporation’s new football video content platform BallBall.

His appointment comes the year after News Corp acquired the English Premier League internet and mobile rights for Vietnam, Indonesia and Japan for three years – and created BallBall. The platform also has mobile and internet content the German, Spanish, Italian and French leagues.

Barnett told Mumbrella: “European football is hugely popular in Asia, but not always easy to access online. is an innovative product that allows football fans to watch all of the goals on their desktop or mobile device for free. Our high quality video content creates a great environment for brands that are looking to associate with football content and reach male audiences.”

He has been replaced by Chris Goh, formerly country manager for Malaysia.

Before joining Catcha Digital, Barnett was a sales account manager for BBC Worldwide, covering Southeast Asia. He has also worked for Aktiv Digital, Yahoo! and British TV station ITV.
