Buzzfeed is to officially launch in India this evening.

The Buzzfeed India Twitter account has been live for some time, but tonight will be the first time where people living in India will be able to read Buzzfeed India-specific content, the social news and entertainment site has informed Mumbrella.

Buzzfeed India will cover a mixture of news, humour and nostalgia content tailored for Indian audiences.

The Indian operations will be led by Rega Jha, who will move from New York to Mumbai to run the site. Jha, who joined Buzzfeed in June last year, has written for Vogue, Rolling Stone and The New Yorker.

Articles running on the site include ‘Several Indians Were Asked ‘Where Can We Find Freedom?” And Their Answers Were Hilarious‘ and ‘Meet The Acid-Attack Survivor Who Modelled In An Inspiring Photo Shoot Instead Of Hiding Away‘.

The launch comes the week after Buzzfeed announced a major expansion plan on the back of a $50 million injection of funding.

Part of the expansion plan is rolling out a new branded content division called Buzzfeed Creative, although that unit is currently led out of the US.

In last week’s announced, Buzzfeed voiced its intention to be the world’s number one digital media brand.
