Australian communications group STW has launched brand and design agency Designworks in Singapore.

Designworks Singapore will be run by Amanda Vallance as CM and client services director.

Vallance joins the agency from FutureBrand’s Singapore office where she was client business director and creative consultant.

Designworks’ chairman and group CEO, Sven Baker, said the timing was right to launch in the citystate at a time when many Australian and New Zealand are looking to Southeast Asia and China “for their future growth.”

“We’re under no illusion that the task ahead will be a challenging and demanding one. We know it’s a very competitive market to try and break into, but we genuinely believe we have something unique to offer and that discerning clients will value,” Baker said.

Vallance has experience in account management and strategic consultancy roles in the US, Singapore, Shanghai and New Zealand, where she has worked with brands including L’Oreal’s Garnier, Nestlé, Tourism New Zealand, and United Overseas Bank.

Though the company has been relatively quiet in terms of its Asian activities in recent months, a year ago STW Group acquired Southeast Asian CRM, digital and loyalty agency CPR Vision. The company’s COO Chris Savage said in May last year that STW has been in acquisition talks with 150 companies in Southeast Asia and entered “serious discussions” with 20 in the 18 months since it has made serious moves in Asia in 2011.
