Spikes Asia entries fall for print and outdoor, but new categories push submissions up overall

SpikesAsia_logo_alternative_portraitEntry numbers for print and outdoor – traditionally Asia’s most successful disciplines at awards shows – have fallen considerably at Spikes Asia this year, although submissions were up overall thanks to the addition of two new categories.

Entries for print fell from 565 in 2013 to 379 this year, while outdoor entries dropped from 762 to 605.

In print, entries from China tumbled from 110 to 50. There were also sizeable drops from Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand in print.

In outdoor, the biggest drops in entries were from China, followed by Singapore and Indonesia.

Also down this year were entries in radio, print & poster craft, media, film craft and direct.

But the total number of entries climbed from 4,832 to 4,984 with the introduction of the healthcare and innovation categories this year, which contributed 236 entries combined. Without the new categories, entries would have been down slightly, by 1.7 per cent.

Entries showed the biggest increases for digital – up from 273 to 461. There were also significant entry rises in the mobile and PR categories.

Also up were entries in the branded content & entertainment, design, film, integrated and promo & activation categories.

Spikes released entry numbers last week, but did not break down the entries by category. The total number of entries shows a three per cent increase overall, but a drop in seven categories, an increase in eight and no change in one, creative effectiveness.
