Singapore-based PR agency Rice Communications has opened an office in Myanmar.

The Burmese operation launches with Hughes and Bosch as foundation clients and will be run by associate director Donna Garcia, who has been with the agency since 2009, the year Rice was founded.

Garcia will divide her time between Myanmar’s commercial capital Yangon and Singapore, where she will continue to lead several of Rice’s key accounts.

Rice founder Sonya Madeira said: “Myanmar is the most exciting emerging market in Asia, and phenomenal growth is on the cards this year as the country leapfrogs into the digital age. With the combined strength of our teams in Singapore and Myanmar, we offer brands entering Myanmar international levels of account servicing with market-relevant insights.”

Rice, which has clients in the automotive, consumer, healthcare, travel and hospitality, energy and tech sectors, has already been working in Myanmar, having hosted two events in Yangon – a dialogue with bloggers and technology journalists on digital PR, and a training session for PR and marketers in the hospitality industry.

Rice has 22 staff across both offices. Key clients include Bosch, ESET, FICO, Inmarsat, Kimberly-Clark, Millennial Media, Mobile Marketing Association, National Instruments, and Palo Alto Networks.
