Ad talent demand in Asia up 5% in Q4 2014, but flat in Singapore and down in Hong Kong

The number of jobs advertised in the marketing and advertising industries in key markets in Asia over the last year rose by 16 per cent between the fourth quarters of 2013 and 2014, with the biggest demand for ad jobs in Malaysia, according to a study by recruiter Robert Walters.

Demand rose by five per cent in the final quarter of last year, but fell markedly in Hong Kong and was flat in Singapore, two of the region’s most important regional hubs.

The results for the last quarter of 2014 show a six per cent increase in worker demand in the ad industry, rising fastest in Japan and Korea.

However, demand for ad jobs fell by 13 per cent in Hong Kong – the only market to see a significant retraction – as hiring activity slowed due to the holiday season and the impact of ongoing political tensions.

Job demand was flat in Singapore, quarter on quarter.

Demand for advertising and marketing jobs was slightly slower than the industry average overall in the Robert Walters Asia Job Index, which was up 18 per cent year on year. The recruiter puts the increase down to the growing number of multinationals entering Asian markets.

The research was put together from an analysis of job boards in national newspapers in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea.
