Airbnb creates first Formula One overnight experience for 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix

Airbnb is giving its fans the chance to “live in the fast lane” with the first overnight experience at a Formula One event at the 2015 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix.

The online lodging service has turned a corporate suite at Sepang International Circuit into a living space that overlooks the track’s sharpest bend. The view of track is like watching a giant screen.

People have the chance to win the experience by telling Airbnb why they’d like to spend the night there, by clicking here.

The living space will be listed on Airbnb from 27-29 March.

The experiential campaign is the first Asian incarnation of Airbnb’s ‘A Night At’ platform, which has seen overnight experiences take place in an IKEA store in Australia, a KLM plane in Amsterdam, Galaeries Lafayette in Paris and a ski lift in Courchevel.

As well as the overnight stay, dubbed ‘A Night at the World’s Hottest Race’, Airbnb is holding a midnight track tour led by F1 journalist Sanjeev Palar. Palar is a former host and TV presenter on ESPN’s Engine Block.

Palar is to guide a group of four winners on two different nights around the circuit.

“We’re thrilled to have finally brought this to life with Airbnb and to have overcame hurdles with creative solutions that aren’t just a headline and a pretty picture,” said Casey Loh, the ECD at GOVT KL, the agency behind the campaign. “It’s what GOVT thrives on, challenges and the ability to create content through creative collaborations.”

GOVT KL’s MD, Syed Nasir, added that “It was never an easy road getting here, but we never take on easy briefs anyway.”

The agency plans to launch a series of films about the campaign featuring the guests to show what the experience was like.

The campaign comes the week after GOVT created a 3D projection installation in a Balinese house featured in Airbnb’s accommodation listing at the former Central Police Station for the Singapore Design Festival.
