McDonald’s Singapore suggests maids deserve as much thanks as mums on Mother’s Day
In a TV commercial to mark mothers’ day in Singapore, McDonald’s has paid tribute to the work of both mothers and domestic helpers in raising children.
In a TV ad created by DDB Singapore, a little girl gives a gift of thanks from McDonald’s first to her mother, and then her domestic helper.
The girl says to her mother: “Mummy, thank you for loving me and taking care of me, I love you.”
She then gives the same gift to the family domestic helper, saying: “Aunty, thank you for taking care of me.”
The domestic helper looks to her employer for a sign of approval before accepting the gift.
The 60-second ad finishes with the words: “Spend a little, share a lot”.
It emerges just over a week after Ogilvy Singapore’s ‘Mums and maids’ video caused a storm for suggesting that Singaporean mothers don’t know their own children as well as their maids.
Finally…all is well in Singapore now.
ReplyOne great advertisement. Keep it Up Mac.
ReplyWow, what an interesting set of ads, I’m inclined to go with the Ogilvy version as being really ‘spot’ on it’s confronting, generally the way truth is.
ReplyThe Mac spot and Maid’s Day Off have nothing in common.
ReplyOne promotes bad food with feel-good crap.
The other promotes a good cause by making parents feel like crap.
Why the comparison and preference?
