Standard Chartered confirms hire of Damien Cummings as global head of digital marketing
Standard Chartered Bank has confirmed the hire of Philips regional CMO Damien Cummings, as reported by Mumbrella earlier this month.
Cummings joins the financial services giant as global head of digital marketing, with a brief to provide digital and mobile marketing thought leadership and strategy formulation and execution as well as work with agency partners, which include ad agency TBWA.
He takes on the role next month and will be based in Singapore. He will report to Sanjeeb Chaudhuri, group head of brand and CMO.
Chaudhuri said in a statement: “I am delighted to welcome Damien to Standard Chartered. As a strategic hire for the marketing team, Damien will drive innovation and transformation in all aspects of digital and mobile marketing. I am confident that the appointment of an executive of this calibre will further strengthen the Bank’s brand and marketing leadership capabilities in the digital era.”
In Cummings’ career, he has worked in senior digital marketing roles for Samsung, Dell, Citibank and Coke, as well as agency-side for Ogilvy’s digital media planning and buying operation Neo@Ogilvy.
His most high profile achievement at his last employer was to set up the Conversation Engine, a regional social media command centre.
About time too…of late I have been dying to have a conversation with a bank brand…preferably one that has built an engine specially for this purpose.
ReplyLooking forward to the next press release where we find out what this guy had for breakfast.
ReplyCreating an engine to command (and presumably control) conversations sounds like a contradiction.
ReplyEngines suggest a substitution or automation for human effort and interaction.
Conversations- especially a meaningful one suggest a one-to-one two way flow of intercourse.
Programming any aspect just betrays the authenticity and sincerity of the entire exercise.
The same way I immediately know my call isn’t important to a bank’s call centre despite it’s constant assurance that it is.
This isn’t knocking Damien- just an observation about the whole concept.
Have your say
